Curriculum Overviews
At Oasis Academy Blakenhale, we believe that learning should be a journey of discovery and excitement at all stages. Therefore we aim to provide challenging and engaging learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. Each child will have their own path to walk, their own journey, and we want to ensure that our curriculum and everyday teaching reflects this, so that everyone can end the year feeling like they are confident in their achievements and progress.
In order to see the value in what they are learning our pupils' experiences should be firmly rooted in their day-to-day life. We want the lessons our children learn to carry with them outside of our classrooms and build the foundations of a passion for learning. In order to help us do this, we want our parents to be in the know about what their children are learning each week.
Curriculum Outline
The curriculum at Oasis Academy Blakenhale reflects the ethos and values of the academy and the family of Oasis academies nationally and globally.
We believe that maintaining a broad and balanced curriculum is vital to enable our pupils to be fully prepared for life, further study and the world of work.
We have resisted the narrowing of the curriculum and as such our pupils are therefore able to experience a variety of subjects. Our approach is to teach this knowledge and skills-based content through cross-subject learning projects.
Our philosophy at Blakenhale is to well-equip all of our pupils for the here and now and future unknowns. We create an environment of challenge through our curriculum and enrichment programmes which forges connectedness, belonging, understanding, respect, and an alignment of our core values, purpose and goals. As the teachers and students themselves identify, being with one another in contexts that not only push them outside of their comfort zones, but which also demand a high level of cooperation, influences the way we see each other, creates a culture of secure risk taking, trust and individual success in a range of subjects.
Enrichment
As part of our broader based curriculum, we offer an enrichment programme to ensure that the children have the opportunity, at a young age, to experience creative, physical and vocational skills that can serve to help them to determine -
Who am I? Where am I going?
One of the key drivers behind our enrichment programme is our understanding of our pupils (past and present) which has lead us to want to passionately break down the barriers they face in our immediate community and have a sense of drive and purpose to be the best version of themselves and to think about what they can achieve in life - here, now and in the future.
The Blakenhale curriculum and enrichment programme deliberately sets out to help pupils build their cultural, social skills and capital by guaranteeing them key experiences. It also aims to be great fun and provide unforgettable learning that will stay with our pupils for a lifetime.
Seeing is truly believing. Our pupils can confidently and eloquently explain what their curriculum means to them. They are passionate learners that are starting to decide their career goals for the future – now!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION – FOR LIFE
VISION STATEMENT:
Physical Education, literacy and activity at Oasis Blakenhale is centred around a health-related fitness programme. Pupils will experience a variety of cardiovascular and fitness related activities, as well as physical skills, while participating in cardiovascular and team-centred activities. Pupils will also acquire the practical experiences and knowledge required to establish a healthy lifestyle, both as an adolescent and a maturing young adult.
The cornerstone of the program is the health and well-being aspects which are underpinned by our own core values. A healthrelated fitness assessment is administered throughout the school year. This assessment determines the health fitness level of each student and his/her level of improvement. Through their enriched experiences, all our pupils will become resilient, confident and physically educated young people, prepared for whatever their future may bring.
Our belief and values are to enable our children to have ‘Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds – Promising Futures.’
